Fundraising on Carers Week
Last week was Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and highlight the challenges carers face throughout the UK.
Our chosen charity, Carers Trust, play a big part in Carers Week and we chose to support the campaign by fundraising for the charity.
We held a football themed fundraising day on 10th June to coincide with the start of the UEFA European Championship 2016. Staff dressed down in football shirts and took part in fundraising activities including a sweepstake, pick-a-player raffle and a bake sale.
Our PMR Manager, Liam Greene, chose to take a challenging route to work on the fundraising day by cycling over 55 miles from Manchester to Leeds. Liam bet colleagues he would be at his desk by 9am, he achieved his target and raised £280 for Carers Trust in the process.
Carers Week ended on a high with our Marketing Manager, Helen Walker, completing an Olympic distance triathlon in Leeds on 12th June. After months of training Helen took on a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and a 10km run and raised an amazing £1900.
With all the fundraising activities we raised almost £2300 for Carers Trust and the local Carers centres we support.
The money raised helps Carers Trust support more than 471,000 carers by providing advice, support and respite through a network of local carers centres and schemes. Read about some of the carers who have benefited from Markel donations this year.
