Markel Care Offers Professional and Business Support Services as Well as Insurance Cover

Markel International, London, April 25, 2017 --- Markel UK, the specialist insurer, has launched Markel Care, a broadly based social welfare insurance policy which also provides policyholders with access to a wide range of additional professional and business support services.

It also provides brokers with access to The Engine Room, a unique portal which provides sector specific content and resources that can be used to develop and maintain marketing campaigns and communications targeted at existing and potential clients.

Markel will be presenting Markel Care to brokers at BIBA in Manchester on May 10-11.

Markel UK currently insures over 10,000 care homes and facilities throughout the UK.

Markel Care targets a comprehensive group of care sector providers, ranging from care and day centres, to counselling and therapy services, and nurseries and play groups.

As well as offering its well established, single policy cover for third party liability, employers’ liability and asset protection, Markel Care offers policyholders with access to six additional areas of business and commercial support, on the same terms as the insurance cover alone.

The additional services offered are designed to both protect policyholders businesses and to support their development and commercial success.

Policyholders will have unlimited access to an all day, every day, business and legal helpline, staffed by a team of over 50 lawyers, including those with care, and health and safety specialisms.

The team also supports a legal portal, which provides a toolkit of documents and templates so that policyholders can deal with standard legal issues without the need to incur costs. The helpline is available to help with the use of the toolkit.

To help policyholders grow and develop their businesses, a marketing portal provides images and own branded templates to help them with new business development.

Policyholders will also have access to a wide range of consultancy services. As well as legal, taxation and funding advice, these include support from Janjer, an established and proven dedicated care and health sector consultancy.

Markel’s social welfare policyholders already benefit from an annual number of hours of consultancy services, while the policy itself offers an extensive range of protection covering the vast majority of risk exposures in the sector including abuse, breach of professional duty and medical malpractice.

Justine Dignam, UK marketing and propositions director for Markel UK, commented: “Markel has established itself as a leader in social welfare insurance over many years and from our conversations with the people who run businesses in the sector, often for vocational rather than solely commercial reasons, we know the sort of things that keep them awake at night. We know where their crisis points are, whether that’s a serious case review, a negligence case or the need for development funding. Markel Care is designed to help the hardworking and dedicated owners and managers of care businesses with a range of services that can add to the protection and support the growth of their operations. Markel’s policyholders can expect more from their insurance provider.“

There’s also an opportunity for brokers to partner with Markel Care to help grow and develop their own business.

The Engine Room provides tools and materials to help brokers maintain and grow their client portfolio, using relevant sector content including material on risk management, insurance, regulatory, legal, taxation and funding, written by Markel’s in-house experts.

The portal also enables brokers to offer all their clients additional services such as advice on R&D tax relief, grant and capital funding, capital allowances, and a range of other taxation and financial matters. Delivering these additional services to clients can generate meaningful new income for brokers.

Justine Dignam added: “Markel Care will mean that Markel’s brokers have a unique offer for their clients and, as they know, their client’s success is their success. The brokers we have been talking to are delighted about the opportunity that Markel Care gives them.”

Gareth Houghton, claims manager and care team manager at Bollington Insurance Brokers, said: "Markel Care brings to market a unique combination of insurance and other professional and business support services that provide policyholders with fundamental business maintenance and growth solutions.  It puts the customer and their needs at the heart of everything Markel does in the care sector."
