Markel appoints Anne Whitaker non-executive director

Markel International, London, November 11, 2013 --- Markel International, the specialist insurer with a worldwide product portfolio, has appointed Anne Whitaker as non-executive director.

After a career of nearly 30 years at EY, latterly as Audit Partner - Investment Management looking after key investment management clients and previously, for four years, Head of Audit, UK Financial Services Practice, Ms Whitaker left the firm in 2008 to take up a number of voluntary, public sector and private sector roles. These include positions as a Board member of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, an NED of Barts Health NHS Trust, as well as working for YourStory, a Lambeth charity for local young people and for MicroVentures, part of MicroLoan Foundation, a microfinance charity in Malawi.

Ms Whitaker is the third non-executive director on the Markel board, along with Ian Marshall, a senior adviser to the Financial Services Authority and Ralph Snedden, former Chief Executive of Euler Hermes International. She is a chartered accountant and has an MA in Mathematics from Oxford.
