Lucy Alexander joins Markel stable

Markel International, London, May 28 2012. Markel International, the insurance specialist, is pleased to announce that it has signed a sponsorship deal with the jockey Lucy Alexander.

Lucy, 21, is Britain’s first ever professional female jump jockey and has already broken records in this demanding and highly competitive sport. She has ridden 43 winners so far in her career, has ridden more winners than any other female jockey in one season, and has been tipped for the very top by fellow jockeys as well as trainers and journalists.

Lucy joins William Buick and Sam Thomas, Markel’s long-standing sponsored jockeys, both of whom recently signed for a further two years with the insurer. Now carrying the Markel name and acting as an ambassador for the company, Lucy will help to raise Markel’s profile as a versatile specialist in a wide range of insurance sectors, not just equine cover.

Commenting on the deal, Lucy says: “As I start out on what I hope will be a long and successful career, I am thrilled to join Markel and represent a brand that has such strong racing connections and which looks after its sponsored jockeys so well. I look forward to representing Markel both on and off the track and hope I can ride a fair few winners for them!”

William Stovin, president and chief operating officer of Markel International, says: “We are delighted that Lucy has joined us to promote our brand. Her skill and dedication reflect our brand values and we wish Lucy every success. We’re looking forward to a winning partnership.”
